Ten Wisconsin Communities May Lose Thousands in Street Repair Due to Submitting Paperwork Late
Sunday, September 13th, 2015 -- 6:54 AM
(Marshfield News Herald) -Ten Wisconsin communities missed a state deadline this year for submitting annual financial paperwork and may lose thousands of dollars in funding for street repairs as a result.According to the Marshfield News Herald, 10 Towns and Villages from Rusk, Shawano, Taylor, Pierce, Oconto, Sauk, Monroe, Price, Crawford and Sawyer Counties missed the deadline. Some were only a week late, but one was just short of 3 months late.
By law, Wisconsin municipalities that fail to report financial information to the state by May 15 each year may be penalized for each tardy day in transportation funding formulas. The penalty amount depends on a variety of factors, including state funding in previous years and local roads spending.
Of the 10 late filers, only the 135-resident Village of Kennan has been penalized in the previous six years, according to DOT records. A notable absence from the new list is the 300-resident Village of Unity in Marathon County, which has chronically missed state deadlines in the past.
