Thursday, September 10th, 2015 -- 8:11 AM
-Growing Together Community Gardens, an effort supported by Marshfield Clinic and Healthy Lifestyles-Marshfield Area Coalition is at the height of its 7th growing season. All available garden plots at three local sites were planted with a variety of flowers and vegetables. The gardens provide Marshfield residents a place to grow their own produce, and offer learning experiences for gardeners of all ages.
Students from the Marshfield School District Community-Based Learning program at the middle and high schools volunteered to weed the community garden sites twice during the growing season. Later, in the classroom, the students made kale chips and tried an assortment of produce from the gardens including peas, beans, spinach, kale, kohlrabi, and radish.
The Growing Together Community Gardens are in their seventh year of operation and have three sites with a total of 80 garden beds.
