Practice Food Safety This Labor Day Weekend

Saturday, September 5th, 2015 -- 7:19 AM

If you're planning a cookout this Labor Day Weekend be sure and practice food safety to prevent getting sick.

Potato salad that sits out too long or undercooked meat could cause food poisoning. It can be hard to judge when meat is fully cooked, and it's easy to forget to put away side dishes when you're having fun.

Stacy Getten is a Marshfield Clinic dietitian and she says bacteria grows on undercooked food, cold food that gets too warm and warm food that cools down. Some cookout food safety tips for your Labor Day Weekend include bringing a meat thermometer and glancing at your watch or phone so you know when it's time to put away food.
