Monday, August 31st, 2015 -- 10:14 AM
The former Town Treasurer of Green Grove charged with theft of a business setting and misconduct in office appeared in Clark County Court on Friday. On April 15th, the Clark County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from the Town of Green Grove Chairman. The Town Chairman reported that there were some irregularities with the Town's finances. The township had an audit done on their finances and discovered that about $24,600.00 was missing from the books since 2013. The Town Treasurer, 75-year-old Sandra Fritz, left a voice mail message for the Town Clerk asking she not report the missing money and that she would pay it back. Ms. Fritz admitted to taking the money from a savings account without the Town Board approval and using it for living expenses at her residence. She indicated she made at least 17 cash withdraws from the Town's savings account.
A $5,000 signature bond was set against her and she's not allowed to have control of any finances except her own. She also requested a court appointed attorney, but the court denied it. She indicated she'd seek an attorney on her own. The remainder of the initial appearance was adjourned until October, giving her time to find an attorney.
