-The Clark County UW-Extension Office is holding an Ag and Household Clean Sweep Tire, Battery and Appliance Collection on Friday, August 28th.Melissa Kono, the CNRED Agent for Clark County, talked more about the fees associated with the different items.
Melissa said, "So, for tires, any tires 20 inches and under the cost is $3 per tire, tires 21 inches and over are $5 and then tractor tires will be a $10 charge per tire. For appliances, TVs that are 49 inches or smaller and microwaves are $15 per item and then wood counsel TVs or TVs larger then 50 inches are $30. White goods, so those appliances that don't have coolant in them, we are taking free of charge. And then any white goods that have coolant in them, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, there is a $20 charge. There's no charge for laptops or tower computers. There's a $10 charge for computer monitors, however. Copiers are $39 to dispose of. Batteries we're taking free of charge and then any over-the-counter or prescription medication are also free of charge."
Melissa also talked about the cost of the project and how it was paid for.
"So, this program is funded through a grant, actually several grants, from the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection," she said. "And then also, Clark County funds part of the cost of this program. We do this program every few years. This is the chance to get those items that should be disposed of properly, especially agricultural chemicals or any hazardous chemicals you may have at home, this is the chance to dispose of them."
Many county departments have come together to make this program happen and as long as you're a county resident, farm or business, you can bring stuff to the clean sweep happening this morning in Owen and this afternoon in Neillsville.
