Some Final Numbers from Neillsville's Annual Board Meeting

Thursday, August 27th, 2015 -- 8:14 AM

-The Neillsville School Board held their annual meeting on Monday.

As I mentioned, the handful of people at the meeting approved the 2015-16 school year tax levy at $3,641,489, which was a .8% increase from last year's $3,612,469. In terms of the mill rate for the area, last year, Neillsville had a rate of 7.93 so with the slight increase, the rate will be slightly higher. However, keep in mind that these numbers could fluctuate slightly as the state has yet to verify the aid numbers.

In terms of mill rate, Neillsville is the lowest district on the list compared to school districts around the county. The closest to Neillsville, in terms of last year's mill rate, is Thorp at 8.12. Many other districts average around 9 or 10 for a mill rate. The highest is Greenwood with 12.97.

Another important item brought up was the district's Community Service Fund or Fund 80. Those funds are used to help pay for the city's recreation department. The total amount in Fund 80 is $75,000.
