Neillsville Police Department Part of "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," Final
Wednesday, August 26th, 2015 -- 11:21 AM
-In an effort to save lives and prevent injuries, the Neillsville Police Department will join law enforcement agencies from all over Wisconsin in the annual "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign going on now until September 7th.The goal is not to arrest more drunken drivers, but to deter drunken driving so we can reach zero preventable traffic deaths. Last year, there were 162 fatalities in alcohol-related crashes. Neillsville Police Chief Scott Klueckmann talked about what you can do to keep yourself and others safe if you've been drinking.
"I don't think I'm saying anything new here, necessarily. Prevention, obviously, is the key. Choose a designated, sober driver that's going to drive you around before you even start drinking. Actually, I've been seeing more of this. More designated drivers. People are trying to take responsibility. And another thing, since the state lowered the blood alcohol number, originally it was .10, now it's .08; if you feel buzzed at all, you are likely over that .08 limit and you shouldn't drive. Another option is to call a taxi or just contact a sober driver, someone to drive you home."
The Drive Sober Campaign runs now through September 7th.
