Black River Falls Middle School Students Participated in Career Exploration Experience
Tuesday, April 20th, 2021 -- 9:00 AM
Despite the constraints of Covid-19, the Black River Falls Middle School staff partnered with the Black River Falls community to provide their 8th grade students with an opportunity to explore a career area they are interested in.
In a typical year, 8th graders would engage in a Community Job Shadow placement in the field, as well as in a Career Fair with business partners from the area.
Even though these experiences were not possible this year, the Middle School staff still wanted the 8th graders to be able to interface with community partners and learn straight from a practitioner.
On Wednesday April 7th, the Middle School hosted an 8th Grade Career Exploration Experience. Members of the community came in or did a video call with groups of students.
Students were able to hear about a typical day of different roles in areas of industry, learn about different paths to seek employment in those areas and ask and answer a host of other questions.
While it was not as hands-on as a typical year, students really appreciated the experience. For some, it cemented "what they want to be when they grow up". For others, this shed a new light on other possibilities, as 8th graders consider their future path.
