Marshfield Man Enters Plea for Hit and Run

Monday, August 24th, 2015 -- 11:22 AM

-A Marshfield man appeared in Wood County Court on Thursday and pleaded to charges he received after striking and injuring a motorcyclist and leaving the scene.

According to court records, in June of 2014, residents on the 1500 block of South Chestnut Avenue in Marshfield heard a loud crash and saw a man lying in the road with his motorcycle on top of him.

A witness said they saw Oscar Balderas park his truck in a driveway, get out and then quickly jump back in and drive away without assisting the victim. The victim, James Luedtke of Marshfield, received two broken bones in his right leg because of the accident. Balderas initially said that Luedtke lost control of his motorcycle as he was coming down the street while he was backing out of his driveway. However, he denied hitting the motorcycle, but authorities found skin, blood and hair on the truck's hitch.

Balderas pleaded no contest to, and was found guilty of, hit and run and negligent operation of a vehicle. He will be sentenced in October.
