Neillsville School Board Report
Friday, August 21st, 2015 -- 11:20 AM
The Neillsville School Board heard information on hazardous transportation designation.School districts in the state of Wisconsin can receive additional transportation funding if there are hazardous areas that kids who live in a 2 mile radius of the school encounter if they walk there. That can include things like no sidewalk, bad sidewalk, trip hazards and more. The School District is working with the Neillsville Police Department and Clark County Sheriff's Department to designate areas within 2 miles of the district as hazardous so they can receive that funding.
The board also denied a donation request and tabled another. The first was from the teachers that run the PBIS, or Positive Behavior Intervention System. They asked permission from the board to go out and solicit businesses for prizes to give to students how display positive behavior and integrity. However, the board denied this because they feel that businesses are solicited too much as it is. There was also some discussion on the choice of name and logo by the group as the board felt it was too vague and didn't offer a proper explanation of what they do.
The second item that was tabled would have been a donation from the school to the Junior Achievement Program. The program costs about $5,000 a year to do and they are currently over $3,000 in the red. The board tabled donating more money to the program and they're going to look in asking a business to help pay for it.
