Notification of Curriculum Standards at Owen-Withee School Board Meeting
Monday, August 17th, 2015 -- 8:21 AM
-The Owen-Withee School Board gave the annual notification of the district's curriculum standards at their meeting last week. The 2015-17 state budget requires districts to annually announce and discuss the curriculum standards they have adopted and use in their curriculum. The following statement was read: On June 8, 1998, the School District of Owen-Withee adopted the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for all applicable subject areas.
The School District of Owen-Withee uses standards to align the adoption of a curriculum to what best meets the needs of our students. All curricula developed by the School District of Owen-Withee are linked to a standard. Curriculum implementation is a result of staff review of standards from multiple sources and professional recommendations, often with the assistance of outside consultants, i.e., CESA 10, board members, technical college and university faculty, parent representatives, etc.
Decisions are then made within the subject departments for recommendations to the board for adoption. A most recent example of this strategy is the adoption of the Tech Prep Math curriculum for the senior high. The School District of Owen-Withee has used resources available through the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards, Common Core State Standards, Next Generation/National Standards for Science, ISTE standards, etc.
