-The defense attorney for a Black River Falls man accused of murdering his girlfriend offered the state a settlement during a court appearance on Thursday.Back in 2013, prosecutors claim that Michael Harmon intentionally shot and killed Angela Nelson at their apartment in Black River Falls. Harmon claims that he and Nelson were fighting all day and he accidentally shot her during a struggle over a gun.
During the court case on Thursday, the defense said that they're trying to resolve the matter in regards to the settlement offered. It was also stated that they are not challenging the competency of Harmon at this time. The defense does not want to delay the trial date and the court wants to be sure the parties will be ready for the trial in January. The judge said that the state has to advise the defense by September 1st if they are accepting the defense's offer to settle. If it's not settled the court wants motions to be filed and heard before the final pre-trial.
Harmon is currently in jail on a $500,000 bond, his final pre-trial conference is scheduled for December and his trail is scheduled to begin in January of 2016 and continue for 8 days.
