Monday, August 3rd, 2015 -- 8:28 AM
-The City of Marshfield began the first step in building their new library on Friday morning.A groundbreaking was held for the new Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library. The "Building Connections" capital campaign has raised $4.7 million to date, well surpassing its initial goal of $4 million, which was set in 2012 when the fundraising campaign began. In 2012, the Marshfield Common Council committed $3 million for the project, with the requirement that the additional $4 million come from donations.
The campaign topped the $4 million mark last year, due to an exceptional gift from Everett Roehl, founder of Roehl Transport of Marshfield. The new two-story library will be named the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library. Construction of the new library begins the complete transformation of the entire block into a multi-use complex that will include the new Marshfield Community Center, an enclosed entrance connecting the two buildings, new parking lots, gardens and outdoor activity spaces.
Six community leaders spoke during the event, all praising the new library and thanking the many donors that have made this possible. The new library is expected to open in a year.
