Three Wisconsin Companies Stop Manufacturing Dietary Supplements After a Misbranding Complaint

Sunday, August 2nd, 2015 -- 6:45 AM

(AP) -The U.S. Justice Department says three Wisconsin companies have agreed to stop manufacturing dietary supplements after a federal complaint that the products were misbranded.

The complaint was filed Friday against Atrium Inc., Aspen Group Inc., Nutri-Pak of Wisconsin Inc., and the owners of the three Wautoma firms.

The complaint alleges the products did not identify the part of the plant from which the ingredients were derived, did not list the number of servings per container and failed to identify the serving size.

A consent decree requires that if manufacturing of the supplements is to resume, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration must first determine that the companies' manufacturing practices have come into compliance with the law. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the proposed consent decree is awaiting court approval.
