Conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Defending Himself in Ruling of Secret Investigation Into Governor Walker

(AP) -A conservative-leaning Wisconsin Supreme Court justice is defending his decision not to recuse himself from playing a role in a ruling that ended a secret investigation into whether Republican Gov. Scott Walker's recall campaign illegally coordinated with conservative groups.At least three groups named in the probe have spent millions to support the court's conservative majority. That prompted Francis Schmitz, the prosecutor leading the investigation, to ask at least one justice to step out of the case in February. The court denied the request earlier this month without comment.
Justice David Prosser released an opinion Thursday saying he was the justice Schmitz wanted out. He said the groups spent to help in during his 2011 election four years ago and enough time has gone by that recusal isn't necessary.
