Clark County Broadband Consortium Continues to Push Forward
Thursday, July 23rd, 2015 -- 8:12 AM
-The Clark County Broadband Consortium continues to move forward in trying to bring high speed internet access to Clark County and its rural areas. The consortium has begun mapping businesses, schools, libraries and other entities to show that the county needs better access. They've also drafted resolutions they're going to send to the county, townships, cities and even school boards to support broadband expansion into the county. The Clark County Board of Supervisors will be voting on that resolution tonight.
The consortium came to the conclusion that this is going to be a big project no matter what way you look at. Certain areas of the county are already moving forward in mapping out and hooking up entities with better internet access. An example includes a plan being developed by CVTC here in Neillsville and Memorial Medical Center. They're looking at finding a way to connect and then connect to Greenwood.
The consortium said that they need to demonstrate to providers the need here in the county and that cooperation between different entities can work well for something like this. They realize that these things happen over time and they must raise awareness, not just talk. However, they also agreed that there is a big difference between need and want. Many people may want higher speeds, but they won't necessarily pay for it if the cost isn't affordable. The consortium is now working on smaller, achievable goals to bring to the table before their next meeting.
