Neillsville City Council Hears Committee Reports, Historic Preservation

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015 -- 9:37 AM

-The Neillsville City Council heard committee reports from the various city committee meetings that occurred.

The first report was from the Historic Preservation Commission meeting held on Wednesday, June 24th. The commission denied the application for a Certificate of Appropriateness by Dawn and James Voss for Tufts' Mansion. The certificate was applied for because a new window was put into the building without prior approval by the commission.

It was stated that they should have followed the ordinance and the changes do not. The commission was also worried that others will make changes and then come to the commission for approval. In the end, the application was denied and James and Dawn were at the council meeting last week to file their appeal of the decision.

The commission also reviewed the Historic Architectural Tour brochure, viewed photos considered for the 2016 historic calendar, and decided a Certificate of Appropriateness was not needed by Dan Clough, who will be doing regular maintenance items to his building downtown.
