Owen-Withee School Board Discusses Logging, Health Insurance and Annual Meeting

Monday, July 20th, 2015 -- 8:13 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board approved the hiring of an individual to coordinate their logging project.

The board unanimously approved hiring Brent Schneveis of Grass Creek Forestry to be the forester for the school forest logging project in the Town of Hoard. Mr. Schneveis will mark the forest for cutting, put the project out for bid and administer the hauling and sale of timber.

The board also reviewed several options for health insurance for the 2015-16 school year. The original renewal included a 12% increase. As the district had budgeted an 8% increase, 12% was unacceptable. The option the Board chose includes a 6.2% increase in premium. The new policy will include a $10 copay for all doctor's visits, currently $0, a $75 copay for Urgent Care visits, currently $0, and a $150 emergency room visit, currently $100. The renewal will take effect September 1st of this year.

Finally, the board heard a reminder about Owen-Withee's Annual School Board Meeting held on Monday, August 2nd. One item that was requested for inclusion on the agenda is the elimination of voting "wards" and going to an open election. Currently, the make-up of the board is 2 from Owen, 1 from Withee and 4 from the rural areas. The board is interested in exploring the idea that anyone living in the district could run for a seat when it comes open.
