Summer Projects, Strategic Planning and More at Owen-Withee School Board Meeting
Friday, July 17th, 2015 -- 8:40 AM
-The Owen-Withee School Board heard an update on the district's maintenance project list.District Administrator Bob Houts presented to the board an update on the status of summer projects that include remodeling the women's bathroom in the high school lobby, sound system for the gym, heating control system for the building, remodeling of the track storage building, the electronic door lock system, parking lot repairs and exterior lighting among others. Progress on these projects is moving along well.
Mr. Houts went on to the district's strategic planning. He pointed out to the board that most if not all of the maintenance projects were included in the strategic plan that was completed in early June. The school forest project also follows the desires of the planning committee. As the district proceeds with facilities and curricular initiatives, the strategic plan will be used as a basis of decision.
The board also heard about the District becoming a Charter School. Elementary Principal Lance Batchelor reported on the Innovative Schools Conference that the elementary PLC Leadership team attended in June. Because of the low turnout the staff was afforded almost one-on-one access to presenters. Several good ideas about STEM implementation school-wide and understanding student mental and emotional states when dealing with behavior problems were learned. The attendees returned with a lot of enthusiasm about how they can implement concepts learned in the school.
