Crop Production Report Shows Higher Numbers than Originally Expected

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Winter wheat production in Wisconsin is forecast at 16.6 million bushels, up one percent from the June forecast and two percent more than the 2014 actual harvest, according to the latest USDA Crop Production report.Based on conditions as of July 1, farmers expect winter wheat to yield 72 bushels per acre, one bushel above June's forecast and up seven bushels from last year. If realized, this will mark Wisconsin's third highest winter wheat yield on record. The area expected to be harvested for grain totals 230,000 acres, down eight percent from last year.
Oat production is forecast at 14.1 million bushels, up 62 percent from 2014. The expected yield is 67 bushels per acre, up five bushels from the previous year. If realized, this will mark the state's second highest oat yield since records began. The area expected to be harvested for grain totals 210,000 acres, up 50 percent from 2014.
And fall potato planted acreage by type of potato consists of 55 percent Russets, 34 percent Whites, eight percent Reds, and three percent Yellows.
