Menards Pledges to Stop Selling Flooring with Phthalates

(AP) -The Menards home improvement chain plans to stop selling a vinyl flooring that contains a toxic chemical.The Eau Claire company joins other retailers that plan to end sales of products with phthalates. The chemical compound has been banned by federal regulators in many children's products, but not in flooring. The chemical has been linked to reproductive and development problems.
The Journal Sentinel says Menards has been pressured by environmental groups to end sales of flooring contained the compound. Menards says it will do so by the end of the year. Its competitors, Home Depot and Lowes, have made similar pledges.
