Lower Bond Approved for Woman Charged with the Death of a Neillsville Man

Monday, June 29th, 2015 -- 11:59 AM

-A woman charged with the death of a Neillsville man had her request for a lower bond approved during a Motion Hearing on Friday in Jackson County Court.

Randi Rupnow was charged with homicide by negligent driving as she's accused of turning into the path of a motorcycle, driven by 28-year-old Jesse Rauk of Neillsville, on Highway 12/27 in the Town of Adams back in October of 2012.

Interviewed witnesses initially told authorities that Rauk was traveling well above the speed limit and he collided with Rupnow when she turned into a private driveway. Rupnow said she never saw the motorcycle. After an investigation, authorities determined that the road was flat, there was an excellent sight line and the crash was caused by Rupnow's decision to turn into the path of the motorcycle.

During the motion hearing, Rupnow's attorney first requested to have information dismissed, but that was denied. The second was to lower her cash bond. She made a similar request earlier this year, but it was denied because Rupnow initially had a signature bond of $10,000, but after failing to appear in court, and hiding out for several months before being caught, the signature bond was forfeited and a $50,000 cash bond was set. Due to those circumstances, the judge kept her bond at $50,000. Now, however, he approved lowering it to $2,500.
