Wisconsin DNR to Ban Deer Feeding in Clark County

(AP) -The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says it will ban deer feeding and hunting over bait in Eau Claire, Clark and Jackson counties after a doe died of chronic wasting disease at a Fairchild-area deer farm. The ban will reportedly take effect Aug. 1. The doe died earlier this month. State law requires these bans in counties that fall within a 10-mile radius of a confirmed case of chronic wasting disease.
The DNR is concerned that three bucks that escaped from the deer farm in May could be infected or exposed. Those deer are still at large and are among 20 bucks that got loose in mid-May. The rest have been returned or shot. Authorities are investigating how the doe got chronic wasting disease.
