Zoning Amendment and Conditional Use Permit Approved at Neillsville City Council Meeting
Sunday, June 28th, 2015 -- 9:06 AM
-The Neillsville City Council approved a Zoning Amendment and a Conditional Use Permit regarding the new Dollar General Store coming to the City of Neillsville.A public hearing was held at 7:15 during the Common Council Meeting on Tuesday for the hearing. The zoning amendment would allow the store to be built on the parcels of land located at 111 E. Division Street or where the former Golden Eagle Restaurant is located. This item was first discussed and approved during a Planning Commission Meeting held on June 16th. It was approved in that meeting, sent to the Common Council and they approved it as well.
The Conditional Use Permit was also discussed and approved during the Planning Commission Meeting and then approved by the Common Council. The only real concerns brought up were by a citizen of Neillsville. She worried about traffic congestion as that area does get very busy in the morning and afternoon when people are going to and coming home from work/school. She also worried about a property next door and the effect it would have on the store.
During the Planning Commission Meeting, the benefits of the store were discussed including 8-10 full time jobs with benefits, a local workforce and a tax base. There will be 30 parking sports at the store and they hope to do the groundbreaking this fall.
