French Female Teen May Get Shot in Major League Baseball

Saturday, June 27th, 2015 -- 8:23 AM

(CNN) - A 16-year-old shortstop from France may be on the verge of history.

Melissa Mayeux could become the first woman to sign with Major League Baseball.

The teen is one of four players from a French team selected to participate in MLB's European Elite camp in August and, she's been added to the league's international registration list.

In the 10-year history of the camp, 76 players have signed with MLB teams, according to MLB.com. Two of the players reached the majors. Despite the historic possibilities, Mayeux says she'd rather keep playing baseball in France until she's 18.
