Owen City Council Discusses Locks on Park Bathrooms
Tuesday, June 16th, 2015 -- 10:52 AM
-The Owen City Council discussed the locks on the bathrooms in the Mill Pond Park.Owen Police Chief Andrew Schade turned into City Hall the keys for the Mill Pond bathrooms saying the Owen Police Department decided they no longer want the responsibility of locking the doors. They also have turned in the key to the Owen Post Office to the Owen Postmaster.
One alderman questioned Chief Schade about why he locked the doors at 8:45 pm one evening while the women's horseshoe league was taking place. The procedure for many years is the Police Department locks the doors at Park closing time and locks the Owen Post Office every evening. The council approved having the Police Department lock the Mill Pond Park bathroom doors at 10 pm or after if any event may be taking place and signage was recommended.
During the public opinion portion of the meeting, a resident asked why CDA Director Tim Swiggum is attending the United Communities Meetings which is for Mayors. The Mayor appointed Swiggum to attend the Mayor's meetings and has been doing it the last three years.
