Woman Enters Plea to Using Drugs at a Marshfield Hospital After Giving Birth to her Son

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015 -- 10:51 AM

-A Redgranite woman appeared in Wood County Court on Monday for using drugs just after giving birth to her son.

Back in November of last year, a nurse smelt a burnt odor coming from the room of 34-year-old Reva Martinez and called the authorities. Besides the mother and her newborn son, the father and a friend were in the room as well. When authorities arrived, they all denied any drug use. A subsequent search turned up used syringes, a white powder and spoons with residue on them. The powder was identified as Oxycodone.

During a plea hearing on Monday, Martinez was found guilty, due to a no contest plea, of possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting or obstructing an officer. A sentencing date has not been set at this time.
