Another County Released from Bird Flu Quarantine

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -After going three weeks without a new discovery of the avian flu in the state, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture has removed a second county from quarantine restrictions. The agency announced Tuesday that after extensive surveillance and testing for the disease, the zone within 6.2 miles of an infected turkey operation in Chippewa County has been released from certain rules.
The farm was confirmed to have birds test positive for the H5N2 avian influenza on April 22, which prompted the state to implement a coordinated response with the property owners and other state and federal agencies to contain the disease. The affected farm was immediately quarantined and the remaining birds in the flock were depopulated. Last week, a quarantine placed on Juneau County was also removed.
Bird owners are reminded that the poultry movement ban to shows, exhibitions and swap meets in Chippewa and the other counties with infected properties, including Barron, Juneau and Jefferson, still remains in effect until May 31.
