Ordinance Changes Sent Back to Executive Committee During Clark County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Tuesday, May 26th, 2015 -- 9:44 AM

-The Clark County Board of Supervisors sent a couple resolutions back to the Executive Committee as they need more work.

One amendment was to the Board of Supervisor's rules ordinance and the other was to the Clark County Board, Committees and Commissions ordinances. The changes to the first resolution, regarding the county board's rules ordinance, would have been regarding public input during regular meetings, the storage of minutes from closed session meetings, the approval of county purchases by the appropriate governing body if the item is more than $5,000, selling county property without approval, getting bids when purchasing county vehicles and notifying the county clerk when purchasing item.

The changes to the second resolution, regarding and ordinance about the county board, committees and commissions, would have been adding applicable statutory references and clarification to duties, adding clarification as to what governing bodies have oversight into specific departments, amending the role of the Law Enforcement and Emergency Management Committee and adding language that the board reserves the right to exercise any duty or authority prescribed to a county governing body.

This action, no doubt, comes from the recent dispute and ongoing court case between the County Board's Law Enforcement Committee and Sheriff's Department. However, as I mentioned, no action was taken on either resolution at last Thursday's meeting and they were sent back to the Executive Committee.
