Man Charged with Filming Women in a Bathroom Asks Jude for Permission to Use Electronic Devices

Friday, May 22nd, 2015 -- 11:22 AM

-An Edgar man who was sentenced in Wood County for filming women in the bathroom of the hotel where he worked recently asked a Wood County Judge if he could use some electronic devices.

Back in October of 2012, a teenage girl found a cell phone on the floor of the bathroom while she was changing and noticed that it was recording. The phone was traced back to 32-year-old Joseph Wright who said the phone had been stolen. After police reviewed the video on the phone, they noticed a man, which fit Wright's appearance, placing the phone on the floor and then running off.

Wright admitted that he had attempted to tape a woman changing and it was one of several instances. Wright had charges of capturing images of nudity and invasion of privacy, both as a repeat offender, filed against him. In May of 2013, Wright was sentenced to 4 years' probation and 6 months in prison. Some of the conditions of his probation include no access to a computer with internet access and he's not allowed to have a device with recording capabilities.

In early May, Wright sent a letter to the judge asking for permission to have a game system and use computers at the local library and Job Center. He claimed that being able to play games will help keep him out of trouble. The judge agreed to let Wright have a game system as long as it's not hooked up to the internet and he can use the computers at the Job Center with supervision.
