Loyal Creating an Action Plan Integrating their Farmers Market and Place Making to Help the City

-A group of Loyal residents and officials, as well as members of surrounding communities, met Tuesday afternoon at the Loyal City Hall to discuss the future of the city's Farmers Market.This year, Loyal was one of 26 communities selected nationwide to participate in Local Foods, Local Places, a federal initiative by the White House that will provide technical assistance from a team of experts to integrate Loyal's local food systems into community economic action plans.
Loyal was 1 of 26 cities, out of a total of 400, that received the grant and the only city in the Midwest. The committee that selected Loyal was looking for communities that saw the link between local foods and local places as well as having a strong partnership with several organizations to improve their existing market.
This process really began with the knowledge that in 2017 Loyal's Main Street will be re-done, so they began planning ahead by applying for this grant to improve their Farmers Market and use Place Making to identify nodes in the city which would be other area people could stop when going to the Farmers Market.
With yesterday's planning session and the workshop being held today, Loyal hopes to come up with an action plan for their market with long term goals of revitalizing downtown and attract more businesses and people to come to Loyal.
This project is being funded by a technical assistance award obtained through a partnership between the City of Loyal, Clark County Economic Development Corporation and West Central Regional Planning Commission.
