Marshfield Man Selected as 2015 Spirit of Hope Recipient

-If it hadn't been for Larry Shortess of Marshfield, who knows when Marshfield's American Cancer Society Hope Lodge might have opened.It was his dedication and powers of persuasion that helped capture last-minute funding to allow construction to begin.
For his fundraising and other abilities he brought to Hope Lodge, Shortess is the 2015 Spirit of Hope recipient and will be honored May 15 at the Vita Bella Gala at RiverEdge Golf Course, Marshfield. Marshfield Clinic is a Gala sponsor.
Thanks to Shortess, the building located on West Doege Street in Marshfield, was fully funded before a shovel was ever turned and there was $100,000 left for the operating fund. Not many Hope Lodges can make that claim.
Since opening in March 2003, Hope Lodge has provided more than 55,000 overnight stays, cost-free, for more than 13,000 people diagnosed with cancer seeking care at the Marshfield medical complex and their caregivers. It remains the only Hope Lodge in Wisconsin.
