Greenwood School Board Discusses Attended Meetings and Phone System Problems

Saturday, March 21st, 2015 -- 8:56 AM

The Greenwood School Board members shared information with the administrators at their meeting on Monday.

Mark Shain attended the CESA 10 meeting with discussions about the State proposed $150/student reduction plus personal conversations with leaders about Greenwood's phone service woes. Jerome Krempasky and Mark Shain also reported on a Clark County Broadband expansion planning meeting. It was also reported that two board members attended a WASB HR seminar with sessions on school policy, workman's comp, FMLA regulations, open meeting laws, handling open records requests and planning for a referendum.

Finally, the board discussed the district's phone system troubles. A lengthy discussion was held regarding installation, operation and communication problems with Mitel, the large company contracted to provide the district's phone service and equipment. While small issues like fixing the elementary PA system have recently shown some progress, bigger woes such as going without district telephone service for over 5 hours last Thursday are inexcusable. Quickly connecting a caller to a person remains a concern. Proving a breach of contract against Mitel may be a long process. Continuing our refusal to pay their invoices until the district is satisfied may be more realistic.
