Owen-Withee School Board Investigating Starting a Charter School

-The Owen-Withee School Board has expressed interest in investigating and possibly starting a charter school in the district.District Administrator Bob Houts had provided background material on what a charter is and what they can and cannot do. The board reviewed this material and expressed interest in continuing the discussion and investigation of starting a charter school.
The current discussion revolves around a STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, charter school at the elementary level. A committee of interested teachers and administration will continue to pursue this concept.
Unfortunately, the finding for planning and implementation grants from the DPI expires this year. No new grants are being awarded until the DPI receives funds from the Department of Education in Washington DC. The district will continue on how to do the idea at a low/no cost.
