Wisconsin DNR Suspending Burning Permits in 22 Counties

(AP) -The state Department of Natural Resources is suspending burning permits in 22 Wisconsin counties because of the risk of wildfires.Dry conditions are expected to result in Wisconsin's first widespread risk of high to very high fire danger this year. DNR Forest Protection Director Trent Marty says rapidly drying brush, gusty winds, low humidity and warmer temperatures are providing all the necessary ingredients for fire weather.
Because of the fire danger, the agency is suspending burning permits in the northwestern and southern half of Wisconsin. Residents are advised to check with local authorities for additional burning restrictions.
The fire risk comes as people are starting their annual yard and property cleanup. The DNR recommends holding off on any outdoor burning until conditions improve.
