Senator Moulton's Listening Session
Wednesday, March 11th, 2015 -- 10:56 AM
-Senator Terry Moulton held listening sessions throughout the area on Monday. As the session began, Senator Moulton made it clear that he was there to listen and not debate items being discussed in Madison.
There were a wide variety of topic covered including Right-to-Work, drug testing, voucher schools, the Milwaukee Bucks Arena, redistricting, abortions, vaccinations, elk in Jackson County, the EPA and stove limits, wolves, the transportation fund and more.
For the most part Senator Moulton did just listen to the concerns of the half dozen people present, but he did talk about a few things they've done, or hope to do, regarding certain topics including the EPA's limits on stove emissions, Wisconsin's wolf hunt and elk released into Jackson County.
Senator Moulton said,
On the EPA and Stove Limits: "I was one of the legislators who signed on to a letter to our congressional delegation to see if they could put a stop to this craziness coming from the EPA, which, in my opinion, is kinda out of control."
On Wisconsin's Wolf Hunt: "Unfortunately, again that's another federal issue, that judge ruled against the Wildlife Service for taking it off. And I think it's unfortunate because the state actually set up a pretty descant, we were pretty conservative on our wolf management plan. Not going too drastic that we were going to wipe out all the wolves. I thought it was a reasonable approach, reasonable quotas. I actually thought the quotas could've been a little higher. But this judge put them back on the endangered list. Again, I have written to the federal representatives and signed on to a letter. And actually, Congressman Reed Ribble, I think, is leading a charge in Congress to do what Idaho and Wyoming, I think it was, did with some legislation that got a wolf hunting season back in those states. So, there's work being done on congressional delegates right now from Wisconsin to reverse that decision."
On Elk in Jackson County: "I think those issues were discussed and I think they feel that they're far enough from major highways that there won't be a problem there. Elk were native to the state at one time and there are some people that would like to see them back here. They're coming form Kentucky. They're going to be tested thoroughly."
Senator Moulton is the Senator for District 23 which includes Clark County.
