Cause of Death for the Man Killed in a Garage Fire Determined

Thursday, March 5th, 2015 -- 10:00 AM

-Authorities have determined the cause of death for a Chili man killed in a garage fire this past Sunday afternoon.

According to the Clark County Sheriff's Department, they responded to a report of a garage fire with someone inside on Sunday afternoon around 5pm. When deputies arrived the garage was fully engulfed in flames.

61-year-old Robert Eckrich was pulled from the structure. Attempts were made to revive Eckrich, but, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Smoke inhalation has been ruled the official cause of death. A State Fire Marshal has said that nothing appears suspicious in the fire, so it is believed to be an accident, but the investigation is ongoing.

Other agencies responding to the scene included the Chili Area Fire and Ambulance Service, the Granton Fire Department, the Spencer Fire Department, the Township of Lincoln Fire Department and the Marshfield Ambulance Service.
