Portage County Man Arrested in Thorp for Child Enticement Appears in Clark County Court

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015 -- 4:12 PM

-A Portage County man arrested in Thorp for child enticement and use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime appeared in Clark County Court on Tuesday for a motion hearing.

According to the Clark County Sheriff's Department, back in June 48-year-old Randy Scott came to the City of Thorp expecting to meet an underage girl, but he was met by officers instead. Scott had exchanged messages with what he believed was an underage girl. In the conversation, he had indicated that he wanted to have sex with the girl, get her pregnant and then take her back to his home where they would live together. Scott initially denied saying that in the conversation, but later admitted to it.

The motion was in regards to whether or not the Clark County Sheriff's Department had Scott's consent to search his phone. A video recorded during Scott's interview after his arrest showed that the Clark County detective received consent from Scott and told him if he changed his mind, he could let him know. When Scott was being jailed, he did later tell a jailer that he "was having second thoughts about his phone." However, at that point, the detective had already taken the information from Scott's phone. The District Attorney's Office will look at the evidence within 30 days, followed by the defense, before a decision is made.
