Greenwood City Council Approves Changes to Waste Water Treatment Facility

Friday, February 27th, 2015 -- 8:13 AM

-The Greenwood City Council approved making changes to their Waste Water Treatment Facility.

The city had to do a Preliminary Facilities Plan to obtain compliance with the Water Quality Based Effluent Limits which requires municipalities to reduce phosphorus levels at their treatment plants.

The council approved the recommendation of the City Engineer to do modifications to the existing facility which will include the installation of a lift station at the old Loyal Waste Water Treatment Facility for flow diversion, installation of an orthophosphate analyzer to control ferric chloride dosing, installing an effluent PH monitor and chemical addition pump to raise PH if additional ferric chloride is used, installing a cover on the clarifier to maintain temperature and reduce freezing and install an aeration system in the sludge tank

Along with that motion is to apply for a Clean Water Fund Loan with 50% principal forgiveness and authorize West Central Regional Planning to start the application. The cost for this project is $550,000.00.

Finally, the Fire Department budget was tabled until the city has further information from the Fire Association on how they determined the figures they used and they approved closing City Hall on March 20th.
