The producers of Wisconsin's biofuels are taking some of the credit for the state's new record for farm exports during 2014.Joshua Morby of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance says export numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture show an 18 percent increase in ethanol shipments, totaling an export value of over $250 million dollars.
Wisconsin ethanol producers also exported more than 500 million pounds of dried distillers grains, valued at more than $51 million. DDGs are a high protein co-product of the ethanol process used for animal feed. Meanwhile, exports to Canada, the top buyer of Wisconsin agricultural products, jumped 14 percent to $1.7 billion with help of an 18 percent increase in ethanol shipments.
Last week, DATCP announced that farm product exports from Wisconsin reached a record $3.7 billion in 2014. That's 13.6 percent more than in 2013, which was also a record year for ag export sales.
