Dane County Largest Corn Producing County

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The USDA says Dane County was once again the largest corn producing county in Wisconsin during the past growing season with 32.1 million bushels.The agency says Rock, Grant, Lafayette and Dodge counties rounded out the top five with 27.1 million, 25.2 million, 23.5 million, and 19.7 million bushels respectively in 2014. Wisconsin corn growers overall produced 485 million bushels in 2014, the third largest on record.
Meanwhile, growers produced 15.7 million tons of silage in 2014, down three percent from the year earlier. Marathon and Manitowoc switched positions as the top two corn silage producing counties in Wisconsin. Marathon, with 750,000 tons of corn silage produced, edged out Manitowoc, which produced 739,000 tons. Clark and Kewaunee, both at 591,000 tons, and Fond Du Lac at 575,000 tons, rounded out the top five.
And Rock, Dane, Grant, and Dodge were the four largest soybean-producing counties in Wisconsin, with Rock producing 4.83 million bushels. The state's total soybean production was 78.8 million bushels, making 2014 season the second largest on record, behind only 2010.
