Owen City Council Approves Several Items Involving the Owen Police Department

Tuesday, February 17th, 2015 -- 9:21 AM

-The Owen City Council approved outside employment for the police department at their meeting last week.

The council approved to pre-approve allowing police officers outside employment on a case by case basis, but the Council must be advised. Also, Owen Police Chief Andrew Schade is now a state certified handgun and patrol rifle instructor. The council also approved to have the firing range be designated for the police department only and, in certain situations, Chief Schade can allow permission to the public upon request at the department and to make updates to the range. No trespassing signs are posted.

The council approved to allow Chief Schade to donate to the Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire District an upper light bar and led lights and to the Clark County Sheriff's Department a cage and a push bar from the old squad car. Clark County donated the use of a squad car to Owen when their squad was being repaired. The OWC Fire District recently donated medical bags for the squad cars for EMS calls.

Some clarification was also provided on outdoor burning with in the city limits. There has been some unlawful burning of garbage in the city and anyone with questions is encouraged to contact the OWC Fire Department.
