Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Awareness Month, Final

Monday, February 16th, 2015 -- 10:58 AM

-February is Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Awareness Month.

Judy Morrow encourages everyone to just check on a neighbor or an elderly person you may know to help them out. You don't have to join Interfaith, but you can still help.

She said, "I would just like to encourage everyone, again I say this so many times, you don't have to join Interfaith as an organization. Look around your neighborhood. I got a call the other day for somebody to shovel a sidewalk. I'm having a really hard time getting people to volunteer to just help their neighbor do that, take one neighbor at a time, but a gentleman and his son just went over and did it for him and now we have a whole new friendship going on and they will finish for the rest of the year because they just connected."

"So, you as a volunteer become a friend and you gain a friend. It would be so nice if Interfaith could have a list of people that we could call when that need comes up. So, when you get on the list, you might not have a need instantly, today, but when that person calls, it's an emergency for them.

"We'd really like to get stronger on the other end of the county. We're not real strong in Owen, Colby, Dorchester area. We'd love to have a volunteer that might want to become a contact person that we could call and say we really need this volunteer to do this event. We need to expand to the rest of the county so that we have that service all over Clark County and not just in this area."
