Minnesota Men Plead Guilty to Assaulting a Marshfield Man

Saturday, February 14th, 2015 -- 7:08 AM

-Two Minnesota men pleaded guilty to battery charges in Wood County Court Thursday afternoon.

According to court records, Alexander Smith and Mitchel Pederson assaulted a man that was walking home after drinking with his friend at a local tavern in Marshfield.

Smith allegedly asked the victim and his friend if he could get a ride to his hotel as they were leaving the tavern. The two men agreed and, after they dropped Smith off, the victim decided that his friend was too drunk to drive so he decided to walk home.

As he started walking, Smith and Pederson jumped him from behind and continually punched him in the face until he lost consciousness. When the victim came to, Smith and Pederson were running away and they had his wallet.

Both men had been charged with felony substantial battery-intended bodily harm and robbery by use of force. Due to a plea deal reached, they pleaded guilty to the battery charge and the robbery charge was dismissed and read in. They will be sentenced at a later date.
