Clark County's Emergency Managment Director Talks Winter Weather, Final

Thursday, February 12th, 2015 -- 11:45 AM

-With our area being right in the middle of a Wisconsin Winter, it's a good idea for people to be prepared for extreme conditions.

John Ross, Clark County's Emergency Management Director, stressed the importance of monitoring the weather, being prepared and checking on your neighbors.

He said, "Be sure that you're monitoring the local forecast during the winter. The weather can change rather dramatically in a rather short period of time. An All Hazards Weather Radio is always a good idea. That way when warnings and advisories are issued, you'll receive that information in a timely fashion."

"If you have neighbors who have functional needs or elderly folks, check in on them. Make sure they're okay. When there's ice and snow on the ground, it's a challenge to get around and sometimes people will remain home and not go outside just because of that. Know your neighbors, check on your neighbors."

"Again, conditions can change quickly. Have a supply kit at home if the power goes out. Have the blankets, the clothes, the batteries, the flashlights, the battery powered radio, ways to receive information, those non-perishable foods that you don't have to cook to eat. You always run the risk in the winter time, if you have ice or freezing rain or that heavy wet snow that can bring down tree limbs; it can bring down power lines and cause outages. Be aware that stuff can happen and be ready for it."
