Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Awareness Month, Part 1

Thursday, February 12th, 2015 -- 11:36 AM

-February is Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Awareness Month.

Judy Morrow explained what Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers is for those that may not know.

She said, "Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Clark County is a faith based organization whose mission is to help older adults, 60 and over, and those with disabilities maintain independent living by combining supportive service through volunteers."

The biggest project Interfaith does is the "Change of Seasons" project.

She said, "Our biggest project through the year is the 'Change of Seasons' which we do with the support of St. Mary's, Social Committee and the Aging Office. So, we've had it in Neillsville for a long time now. This year, we had over 130 volunteers who did over 40 yards, gutters, etc. The ladies of the church made breakfast for us, the group went out, did the work and came back for lunch. This is been the most outstanding year for that program in Neillsville and now its expanded to Loyal. The Trinity Lutheran Church has been the host for the last few years and this year St. Anthony's Catholic Church is going to be the host. They also have breakfast and many volunteers and go out in the Loyal, Granton, Greenwood area. So, we hope, eventually, to have it that large throughout the county as the years go by. So, after that, most of the other things are just the one-on-one helping the elderly maintain their independence."
