-With our area being right in the middle of a Wisconsin Winter, it's a good idea for people to be prepared for extreme conditions.John Ross, Clark County's Emergency Management Director, talked about things you can do to prepare for extreme winter weather conditions that may arise in Central Wisconsin.
He said, "It's always a good idea to be prepared for Winter. Not only at home, but also in your vehicle when you're traveling. We talk a lot about the disaster supply kit that you should keep at home. You should also keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, especially in the winter time. You want to keep blankets, spare clothes, flashlight with batteries and some non-perishable food items."
"A good piece of advice, if you do become stranded in the winter time, is to always stay with your vehicle. Always keep at least a half a tank of gas in your vehicle if you can. But have that kit. Jumper cables, some kind of traction sand or kitty litter that you can put down so if you can use that to help the tires some kind of traction, that's a benefit to you. A shovel, so you can clear the snow away from your vehicle."
"And keep an eye on the weather. Watch the forecast, listen to the forecast. Make sure somebody knows your route of travel; make sure someone knows when you expect to arrive at your destination. Always keep a cell phone charger in you car."
