Semi Crashes Into Home In BRF Area

News Release -On February 6, 2015 at 15:28 the Black River Falls Fire Department was dispatched by the Jackson County Emergency Dispatch Center (EDC) to N7125 County Hwy A in the Township of Adams, County of Jackson, for a semi unit that had crashed into a house. Upon arrival the department found a semi unit crashed into a home knocking it several feet off its foundation. The semi unit had been east bound on I-94 and came through the ditch crossing county Hwy A which runs parallel to I-94 and then into the home.The driver had exited the semi tractor on his own power before the department arrived. He was treated on scene by Black River EMS and transported to a local hospital.
One of the semi tractors two fuel tanks was damaged in the crash and fuel was leaking from the tank into the mineral soil. It is estimated that 60 to 65 gallons of fuel leaked from the damaged tank before the department stopped the leak. No water way is or was threatened by the spill. The WI DNR has been notified of the diesel fuel spill and a DNR Warden did respond to the scene.
The home owner was home at the time of the crash and reports that he had just gotten up from a nap before the semi crashed into the home. The location that the semi crashed into the home was the bedroom area of the home where the owner had been resting. The home owner was not injured.
The home has heavy structural damage and can not be lived in at this time. The Red Cross was called to assist the home owner.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the crash.
The department was clear of the scene at 21:25.
