Neillsville Chamber of Commerce Recognition Banquet, Spotlight Award: Dee Zimmerman

Thursday, February 5th, 2015 -- 11:59 AM

-The Neillsville Chamber of Commerce held their Recognition Banquet at the Neillsville American Legion Saturday evening.

The winner of the Spotlight Award was Dee Zimmerman who puts together the "Good Old Days" column in the Clark County Press. Dr. Greg Foster, the awards presenter for the evening, talked about Dee's history.

He said, "This year's Spotlight Award honors a woman who has dedicated her career to sharing the history of our community with others. Dee Zimmerman was hired to work part time at the Black River Country Shopper and, after a couple years, she became a full time employee. About 20 years into Dee's tenure, the Black River Country Shopper and the Clark County Press were purchased by News Publishing of Black River, with the company combining the two businesses. Through the encouragement of some local Press readers, "The Good Old Days" page was added as a weekly feature. It was struggle for staff to find time to gather the information and Dee knew that many readers were interested in local history, so she volunteered to take on the project."

Dee said when you enjoy what you do, time goes by fast.

She said, "45 years. I think, how can it go by so quickly? Then I remember a quote that is occasionally made: if you enjoy what you're doing, the time goes by fast. And that's true. I've enjoyed working at the Press/Shopper and compiling "The Good Old Days" page. Working with the Historic Commission has been a great adventure and a great experience."

Besides the award presentations, there was a delicious meal and entertainment by the Clark County Male Chorus.
