Neillsville Improvement Corporation Begins Preliminary Stages of Improvements to the City

Friday, January 30th, 2015 -- 8:20 AM

-The Neillsville Improvement Corporation has begun the preliminary stages of improving and making changes to the City of Neillsville.

For those that don't know, the Neillsville Improvement Corporation has been around since 1989, and is composed of Neillsville residents, business leaders and more, and is committed to strengthening the business community and tourist trade in the city. An example of their past work includes the Town Square and Gazebo.

Recently, the group was involved with place making, which, put simply, is identifying places of interest, or nodes, that draw people to them in the city. Examples include WCCN's Pavilion and Chatty Belle, the Jail Museum and the Arboretum. After these nodes were identified, a group of NIC members, as well as city leaders, employees, business leaders and citizens, got together, toured the nodes and made comments on how they could be improved.

At a meeting on Wednesday evening, that same group began to look at the projects that could be completed by them in collaboration with funding sources, the city and private owners of the nodes. Four projects were picked to begin which included information kiosks at the city entrances, the Arboretum, geocaching and asking about a silent sportsmen trail. The group will put together a plan and look at the cost of the project and meet with those involved before asking for funding and starting the project.

One of the key items mentioned frequently during the meeting is that the groups want to make sure that there's an open line of communication with everyone involved and build partnerships so they don't step on anyone's toes.
